Adjective after linking verba

After linking verb it should be used adjective,
for example:
Antarctica seems cold and foreboding to first-time visitors when they see the wind-blown ice and snow

List of Linking Verbs
BeLookFeel
TasteSmellSound
SeemAppearGet
BecomeGrowStay
KeepTurnProve
GoRemainResemble
Run
Lie

Examples

Let's look at some examples to make this clearer:

  • Correct: "She is happy." (describes "she")

  • Incorrect: "She is happily."

  • Correct: "The music sounds loud." (describes "music")

  • Incorrect: "The music sounds loudly."

  • Correct: "The bread smells fresh." (describes "bread")

  • Incorrect: "The bread smells freshly."

In summary, remember that linking verbs are like an equals sign (=). The word that follows the verb is a description of the word that comes before it. Because adjectives describe nouns, they are the right choice.
